PHOTOGRAPHY FOR ARTISTS: IFE ABHULIMEN

I met Ife Abhulimen through Textile Collective in Colchester, where she runs their Eco Textile School on Saturdays. Ife is an artist who works mainly with waste: what people normally discard or neglect. She makes use of cardboard, textile scraps and plastic waste to create functional art and visual art, mixed media.

In preparation for her recent exhibition at The Minories, Delicate Resilience, Ife asked me to work with her to create a series of portraits of her and her work, stunning pieces all created from textile off-cuts and plastic waste. The exhibition was a reflection of her journey as a self-taught artist and designer and we wanted photographs that celebrated Ife’s creativity and love of nature.

It was a joy to work with Ife on this and I’m really pleased to share a few of the images here.

You can see more of Ife’s work on her Instagram page, @artbyife_

Thank you also to Julia for her assistance on the day, and Ife’s daughter for makeup.

I’m a photographer working with artists, arts organisations and charities to document their work and take promotional photographs. If you’d like to have a chat about commissioning me to work with you please get in touch by email here.
