May 2025, Colchester, UK. Photograph of a red and yellow Little Tikes Cosy Coupe plastic toy car in a river, half in half out of the water, with river plants all around it. The photograph is taken from the river bank, looking through trees, which can be seen out of focus in the foreground around the frame.

Notes on Recent Things

As spring continues I’m getting ready to photograph the RHS Chelsea Flower Show again. I’ve been photographing for The English Garden Magazine since 2017, and it’s so interesting to see how things change over the years. I’m excited to see what this year brings.

Photograph of a garden with large rusty-metal structures surrounding a tree towards the back centre of the frame, with a raised metal walkway leading towards it from the bottom right of frame. Lush green plants and flowers surround these, and in the foreground is a pool of water with stones and blocks of concrete in.

I was pleased to see the latest feature on Goldsmiths’ Stories, featuring images I was commissioned to take a little while back. You can read more about that in my post, ‘Photography for The Goldsmithsโ€™ Company โ€“ Fred Rich‘.

Photograph of Fred Rich, wearing a cerise jumper, blue jeans and glasses, leaning on a bannister, with white shelving to his right holding jars and pots full of materials. To the left of the frame is a clock, a houseplant and a drawing of a hollyhock taped to the wall, and a painting of an elephant can be seen behind Fred to the right of the frame.

We went to Spain for a couple of weeks and had a great time exploring, learning and eating vast quantities of tapas in Barcelona, Granada, Cordoba, Seville, Toledo and Madrid.

I continued to play with the Olympus XA1, after the limited success of the previous roll of film. I tried another roll of expired 400 ASA film and set the camera at 100 ASA to compensate for the age. This worked out well. I had fun and I like the look of the photographs. I’ll keep going.

I took the XA1 and a couple of fresh rolls of Kodak Pro Image 100 to Spain, too. I was a little concerned about how it would cope with all the X-rays it went through but it seems to have been fine. I’d expected that at the airport but bags are also scanned at train stations and some of the sights we visited, so they went through a lot.

I have photographed some more Home / Work spaces and have some interesting ones lined up, too. You can see the ones I’ve put on the blog here and I’ll continue to add them as I go.

More to follow soon, and as always, if you’ve got a project you’d like me to get involved with, a home workspace you’d like me to photograph or film/TV series you think I’d like, please get in touch, it would be lovely to hear from you.
