The first exhibition of images from Shutter Hub's Postcards from Great Britain project opened on 5 March at the Hotel Lion d'Or in Haarlem, The Netherlands, supported by Fujifilm Original Photo Paper and I was absolutely delighted to be there and to photograph it.
"Postcards from Great Britain is a largescale project from Shutter Hub, inviting photographers to share their visions of British culture through photographic images and create conversations and exchange. Pop-up exhibitions will be held in locations across Europe, with related events, showcasing thousands of postcard-sized images. Every image submitted to Postcards from Great Britain will be collated into a digital and print catalogue, to be housed in libraries and archives around the world, and 100 images will be selected for a collectable postcard set. (See the up-to-date Project Overview here).
In a significant time in European history this project sets out to document and share aspects of British culture, spanning all genres of photography, and collating images which include social, political, historical, traditional and observational responses."
The exhibition is stunning - beautifully curated as always by Shutter Hub's Creative Director Karen Harvey. The Hotel Lion d'Or is a perfect location too, so well connected and in a really central location in lovely Haarlem with beautiful interiors. I recommend visiting Haarlem, and The Hotel Lion d'Or is such a great place to stay, too, they really looked after us well.
It was such a lovely evening - people came from all over, made new connections, new friends, discussed new possibilities - exactly what Postcards from Great Britain is all about! Visit the Shutter Hub blog to read all about the night and some lovely quotes from people who were there.
