Notes on the year so far...

March 06, 2017  •  1 Comment

Well it's March already so I thought it would be good to let you know what I've been up to recently - I do quite a mix of work so I think it's probably helpful to talk more about it!

January and February were a very busy couple of months, with quite a range of projects, so here is a little about some of them:

Promotional photography

I shot a new line of jewellery for my regular client Carrie Elizabeth's Not on the High Street store - initial necklaces in silver, gold and rose gold. They are really lovely and it's well worth checking out their gorgeous products! You can also buy directly at carrieelizabeth.co.uk and ASOS.

I also worked with a wonderful company I have known for a while, The Bra Consultancy. They do fantastic work offering personalised bra fittings, particularly for women looking for specialist bras following surgery. We had a session taking promotional photographs demonstrating the services they offer, and once they have been released I will post a blog about the shoot.

Digital imaging consultancy

It has been a busy couple of months for consultancy/digital imaging work - I was back helping a client whose slides I have been digitising for lectures. It's a job I have really enjoyed as it gives me the chance to look at images of art and design that I hadn't come across before - it's always very inspiring!

In a similar vein, I was really pleased to go back to the Geffrye Museum to work in the picture library where I worked before I went freelance in 2013, checking images and adding them to their picture library system. It was great to see familiar faces and see how things had changed. I really enjoyed checking out their Teenage Bedrooms exhibition too!

Project work

I managed to squeeze in a couple of shoots for my ongoing project Home/Work too - I revisited Jo to see her new workspace in her garden, and also photographed photographer Anne's workspace, which will be on the blog very soon.

Shutter Hub

I'm excited to say that I'm now a Project Manager for Shutter Hub, an awesome photography organisation doing lots of great things! I'll be getting a lot more involved over the coming months so will share updates when I can. Check out shutterhub.org.uk to see what we're up to!

Exhibitions, general ramblings etc.

In more general news, I've been making an attempt at keeping a sort-of journal this year. I'm terrible at journals - I just can't keep up with them. So this time I'm trying just sticking photos from each day in, adding words when I feel like it, and other random things. So far it's working quite well. I'm not totally giving up when I miss a day, and I've been enjoying taking time out to do a bit of collaging each week!

jayne_170122_8102jayne_170122_8102 I haven't been great at visiting exhibitions this month as it's been so busy, but I did catch Gee Vaucher: Introspective at Firstsite, which was excellent. I think most people are familiar with Vaucher's 'Oh America' image which has been used extensively in the media recently, but the wide range of her work is quite staggering. The exhibition has finished now but it's well worth checking out her work if you can.

I think that will do for now, but I'll be posting more regularly now, and you can join me on Twitter or Instagram if you'd like to see snippets of my view of the world - current interests include noticeboards that are now longer in use, walls being used as places to wipe your hands, and our adventures in decorating...
